    While commercially available bars have synthetic, chemical detergents that can cause skin dryness and irritation soaps made in small batches with plant-based natural oils and butters can cleanse the skin in a mild way.

      In handcrafted soaps glycerin is a natural by-product of soap making which moisturizes the skin. Many manufacturers of soaps remove glycerine for use in other more profitable products which is also the reason why most commercial soaps dry the skin.

The result of this is often soggy, soft bars that disintegrate rather quickly. Not what you want. You need to ensure the soap is stored correctly. This means, you want to store it on a free-draining dish, away from running water; ideally in a well ventilated area.
